Jonathan D.
Bearded since: 2009. I am an occasional or seasonal beard grower.

Comments:
The first time I grew what I considered to be a "long" beard, long for me that is, was due to a Judeo/Christian religious vow I made. My beard and naturally curled mustache got such wonderfully different comments and stares that I decided I really liked it. Unfortunately the nature of the vow required me to shave it at the end. I actually have a video of the shaving of my beard/mustache/head hair.

Recently, I decided that I want the beard back again, this time without the vow so I have no need to shave it at the one year mark.

How do I feel about my beard? For the most part I love my beard. It makes me feel distinguished and manly, rugged. I know that my girlfriend finds it intrusive, though. And at times, I see the inconvenience of having a mustache that I keep food off of and constantly keep clean like head hair, in the shower. If I could grow beard in a day, as tempting as that idea would be, I don't think I'd like it as much. Knowing that it took time and a lot of personal grooming and hygiene to create my perfect beard, means a lot to me, especially when I actually get the occasional compliment on the size of my beard when it is large.
